I was reading an article today which twitched me somewhat. Nothing over the top, but it sent me a message.
“We’re still stuck in a bit of a country mentality – people still leave back sliding doors unsecured, they leave their garage doors open and leave home without turning on their electronic security… there’s a lot that people could be doing to help us reduce crime.”
Should we as the “innocent” public have to increase our security to “reduce” our crime rate. OR…. should more be done to “prevent” the increased crime rate?
Think about it, we can’t defend ourselves, we can’t defend our property. We can however, spend a fortune on security alarms, locks, etc, and pay higher premiums to protect our goods. Yet we leave a back door open “while we are at home”, and now we’re being told to help “reduce” the crime rate by locking up 24hrs a day, even when we’re home.
You take all our options away to protect ourselves, & tell us we to live in cages.
Don’t carry your laptop or tablet, because your begging to be robbed. Keep your doors locked when driving so you don’t get car-jacked. Forget about feeling safe just doing the grocery shopping, because you’re just as likely to have your bag snatched in a drive-by walking back to the car. Worried about your elderly mother living alone? You should be. The rate of ‘granny attacks’ irks me to the core.
Then the most important… our kids. We are brainwashed not to trust anyone. Sadly, maybe this is true. But who are we not trusting? School teachers? Priests? Scout leaders? Uncles? Mothers? Fathers? Taxi drivers? Cops? Our Govt? School bullies? The Internet??
Is it just me thinking that we are being increasing told to “build fortresses with bridges of mistrust”?
No. I don’t live in NYC, London, Sydney or any other major city. I live in what ‘used’ to be a seaside town on the outskirts of Perth, Western Australia. So how is it on your portion of the planet?!?
Have a “nice day”! :-)
