One of the things most notably absent from this journey, has been the amount of well wishes. It seems that some people are having a hard time grasping the fact that it is MY adventure, not theirs… so get over it. I’m a grown woman & I know what I am doing, and I am also amazed at some of the reactions to my trip.
- Remember the terrorists
Well, there is not much chance of me forgetting that! Aside from the glowing reports I have heard of flying Emirates, one of the reason I chose to fly Emirates is because I don’t think the Arab nations would tolerate an attack. If the worst happens, I don’t think they’ll sit around being politically correct in their response. - I could get kidnapped by white slave traders!
I’ve been in many relationships that were worse than that! They would have to be pretty desperate to want me when they can have any number of youngens that are blase with their personal security. - You wont come back!
I think the department of immigration might have something to say about that! Let’s get serious here guys, even if I did want to run away, do you really think I am going to leave my business high & dry & my beloved dog? I know my daughter & hubby have their own lives and don’t really need me around, but hey… I have a life too! As much as I love traveling & might live somewhere else one day for a while, Australia will always be my home. - What about your husband?
Well, I admit to being disappointed if he didn’t miss me at all, but there are many many husband & wives that through necessity are often away from each other for long periods of time. In Australia the fly in/fly out method of work is very common, 6 weeks on, 1 week off. Some occupations are forced to do it months at a time! My husband has his own life, and will survive quite fine without me. - You’ll get Swine Flu or be stopped at the border!
I would predict there is a greater risk of me falling down the escalator at the airport & hurting myself much worse! (I am so useless on those things). There is a chance that we could get stopped, or even quarrantined at some point, but seriously, these are all civilized countries we are traveling to & I haven’t seen a death yet. I fear I got more risk of killing someone else, when I have to drive on the right side of the road in a right hand drive car! So worry about the things I do fear! LOL
I could go on & on & on …. I have heard them all! In fact, I heard them all last time I went on a holiday! Yet all that happened was I fucked up my ankle & brought back a husband! While both trying factors, I wouldn’t class as dangerous *wink*
So apart from having to prove who I was & that I was an Australian to get my passport, a runaway daughter, my mother-in-law in hospital & a leaky bucket of holiday funds, there is nothing to concern yourself with. There are no scenarios to conjure up. No assumptions to be made.
To what seems to be the 6 billion dollar question …. “what about me traveling with another man?”
The short & curlies are ….
I am long overdue for a holiday & no one would come with me. Originally I was going to test the mobile office out by catching trains all over the place. I asked my programmer if he would like to spend some time traveling around with me, he needed a holiday too & agreed. I then asked Paul about taking his 4 wheel drive car & us driving around. Two people that work together, need a holiday & some fun, and are going to see just how easy it is to run a business on the road & maybe publish our adventures.
So maybe some people can get rid of some hangups now & start wishing me a safe & adventurous journey! :-)
