where I've lived & travelled
I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world a few times and call a handful of countries home, and I can definitely vouch for the saying that travel broadens the mind. Mine’s been stretched and reshaped plenty! I’ve lived in Canada, Scotland & England, and in a funny twist of fate, I ended up marrying a Canadian and a Brit, both of whom migrated to Australia. You could say I’ve earned my stripes when it comes to navigating immigration stories!
My travels have taken me across the US, Canada, Belize, and Guatemala, as well as through the UK, Spain, Morocco, Italy, Portugal, and New Zealand. And although I explored much of Australia years ago, it’s definitely time for a fresh chapter of road-tripping adventures. Our dream? To hitch up a caravan and hit the open road, rediscovering every stunning corner of this incredible country all over again. I can’t wait!
Living in Australia feels like being stitched into a vast, sunburnt tapestry, where the land itself shapes your rhythm. You learn to respect the land, the weather, and the quiet resilience of communities that thrive in remote corners. Australia teaches you to slow down, listen to nature & find joy in the ordinary.
There's a quiet dignity to Ottawa. Its Gothic architecture, bilingual banter & the way locals embrace winter like an old friend. You learn to layer up, lean into the cold, and find warmth in community rituals: skating the Rideau Canal, sipping maple-infused coffee, or watching the tulips bloom each spring.
Living in England feels like walking through layers of time. You learn to appreciate subtlety, how humour is often dry, how warmth is tucked behind politeness, and how history isn’t just taught, it’s lived. From the buzz of London’s markets to the stillness of a village pub on a rainy afternoon.
Traveling through cities and towns in the USA feels like flipping through a living scrapbook, each page stamped with its own rhythm, accent, and soul. The contrasts are striking: country rock spilling from a Tennessee porch, tech buzz in an Athens café, cowboy boots tapping out stories in a dusty Texas bar.
Belize feels like slipping into a vibrant mosaic, where jungle whispers meet Caribbean breezes and every town has its own heartbeat. Winding through San Ignacio’s lush hills & ancient Maya ruins, where the air smells of rain and history. Then to Caye Caulker, where locals greet you with Creole warmth & cheeky charm.
Guatemala feels like stepping into a living canvas, painted with volcanoes, jungle mist & the vibrant threads of Maya tradition. Wake to howler monkeys echoing through the trees, where the pace shifts constantly slow & soulful in the highlands, electric & earthy in the markets.
Italy feels like wandering through a love letter written in stone, pasta & sunlight. Rome pulses with ancient grandeur, and quiet piazzas where locals linger over espresso like it’s a sacred ritual. It’s not just about seeing, it’s about tasting, listening, and letting "la dolce vita" seep into your bones.
Scotland feels like tracing poetry across a rugged landscape, where every town & city hums with myth, music & mist. You ride trains past lochs that shimmer like secrets & hike trails where the silence is sacred. Scotland challenges you to feel deeply, walk slowly, and let its wild beauty shape your sense of time.
Spain feels like dancing with passion, history, and sun-soaked rhythm. You feast on tapas in tucked-away taverns, stumble upon festivals that feel like family reunions, and learn that time here bends to joy. Spain dseduces you into staying a little longer, feeling a little deeper, and living a little louder.
Traveling through Sicily feels like wandering through a sun-drenched epic, with Mount Etna brooding in the distance. The roads are winding, the buses unpredictable, but the rhythm of Sicily rewards patience. It’s a land of contrasts, raw & refined, ancient and alive. Where every meal tastes like a memory.
You can cross the entire country in under an hour. Buses are affordable but often late, and driving can be chaotic in narrow streets. English is widely spoken, which makes navigation easy, but cultural nuances still run deep.
Marrakech greets you with a whirlwind of color and sound. You ride between places in rickety buses or sleek trains, watching the landscape shift from desert ochre to coastal breeze. In small towns, mint tea becomes a ritual, and strangers often feel like old friends.
Traveling through Croatia feels like traveling between worlds, where medieval stone & turquoise sea meet in perfect harmony. Dubrovnik dazzles with cinematic grandeur and cliffside charm, Split hums with Roman echoes and café culture. Croatia is wild & refined, ancient & alive, always ready to surprise.
Gibraltar feels like exploring a compact crossroads of cultures, where British quirks meet Mediterranean ease, all under the watchful gaze of the iconic Rock. You stroll past red phone boxes & Union Jacks, then turn a corner into sunlit plazas echoing with Spanish & Moorish influence.
Lisbon greets you with soulful fado & steep streets lined with azulejos, while Porto pours its charm with riverside cafés & port wine cellars tucked into granite alleys. But it’s the smaller towns that truly enchant, the fairytale haze of Sintra, and the whitewashed serenity of Tavira in the Algarve.
